The Saline New Horizons Band is proud to be able to award scholarships to deserving Saline High School seniors who will make music an important part of their college careers. We awarded our first scholarship in 2018.
The Joseph and Mary Labuta Saline New Horizons Band Scholarship
Dr. Joseph Labuta started to play the trumpet in small combos and dance bands while still in high school. After receiving his degrees in music he held a number of teaching positions, concluding his career at Wayne State University as the Chairman of the Music Education Department. All his life he celebrated, performed, authored books and promoted music. After retirement, Dr. Labuta and his wife, Mary, founded the Saline New Horizons Band, thus continuing to share their talents in music education. It is gratifying to the band that we can recognize Joe and Mary’s accomplishments and thank them for all their efforts in music via the scholarship program.
